These are AD's cultural picks for August.
Isn't it great? There is always something new to discover in the arts. This is also the case with AD's cultural tips for August. An up-and-coming gallery in Hamburg, for example, breaks with Western viewing habits and introduces us to young art from the African continent (above). A renowned museum (finally!) celebrates the achievements of almost forgotten women in the Dada movement, and in Frankfurt you can discover an entire art movement that most people have never heard of.

She wrote her bachelor's thesis on Picasso and his art dealers, explains 35-year-old gallery owner Stella Melbye-Konan. She studied art history and communication in Hamburg and Paris, worked at the Centre Pompidou and opened a gallery for contemporary art in her home town of Hamburg four years ago. The ambitious art dealer's declared aim is to discover the next Picasso! Today, Galerie Melbye-Konan, which specialises in art from the African continent, is one of the up-and-coming names in the business. And why is that? Because Stella Melbye-Konan has a nose for young talent. If you want to get a glimpse of some of the newcomers represented by the gallery, you can do so until 24 August 2024 in the beautiful group exhibition 'Mouvement', which was created in cooperation with the French Consulate General and the Institut français in Hamburg. Works by German and French-speaking artists are on display. Among them: Swiss artist Stella Meris, whose paintings (below) appear light-hearted at first glance; Berlin-based installation artist Karolin Schwab, who studied with Ai Weiwei, among others; and Yannick Ackah, born in 1992 in the Ivory Coast, whose work was completely unknown until recently but is now sought after by collectors worldwide.
