Anyone who sits down on the bench in front of the large shimmering canvas work in the Melbye-Konan gallery can go on a journey of thought: to rivers of royal blue streaks of color that make their way through wild landscapes and eventually flow onto copper-colored banks. Or to mountains of clouds, enchanted gardens and jungle areas - photographed from high up in the air. For example. The works of the young Hamburg artist Anna-Belén Siegmann, which she composes with acrylic, watercolors, varnishes, metal foils, pigments and wax in her London studio, allow for many associations. You can scan her multi-layered works with your eyes for minutes, discovering ever new layers, textures, thick drops and watery color gradients.
The Melbye-Konan Gallery is now showing a large collection of new paper and canvas works by the 27-year-old in its 400 square meter space in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg's Outer Alster.
In her solo exhibition Alchemy, the young artist and graduate of the renowned Royal College of Art in London explores processes of transformation in nature and the human mind. Belén, who draws inspiration from Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer, Sigmar Polke and Helen Frankenthaler, among others, seamlessly combines the worlds of natural science and mysticism. With organic, plant-like patterns and flowing structures, she symbolizes states of mind and the passage of time.
For me, painting is a form of alchemy - a process in which colors and materials transform to produce deeper insights and emotions," says the artist, who, as the best student in her class of 2024, received the prestigious Lucy Halford Bursary Scholarship for her Master's program at the Royal College of Art in London.
It is therefore not surprising that at the opening of the Hamburg exhibition almost all of the works were marked with a red dot. She is also represented in the important collection of the British artist Lord Davies of Abersoch CBE. Her works can also be seen in the Saatchi Gallery in London.
All the better that there is still enough time to let yourself be carried away by the view of her works in the beautiful Hamburg gallery Melbye-Konan.
