The abstract artist’s paintings and installations are on display at the Kepes Institute in Eger until next March.
For the second time, the paintings of contemporary painter Márta Kucsora will be shown in Hungary in a solo exhibition, this time at the Kepes Institute in Eger. Her paintings are held in museums and private collections around the world. Kucsora had a solo exhibition at the Budapest Kunsthalle in 2021, a solo show at Patricia Low Contemporary in Switzerland in 2022 and at Kálmán Makláry Fine Arts in Budapest, and in 2020 at Postmasters Gallery in New York.
The Hungarian painter’s characteristic works are marked by her employment of the radical possibilities of abstract-lyrical form-building. She finds her subject in the materiality of surfaces created with applied paint. Emotionally rich, energetic, and passionate, the huge, often larger-than-life dimensions of her canvases push the boundaries of the medium.
At the core of the exhibition at the Kepes Institute are three recent monumental paintings by Márta Kucsora, three triptychs that seem to be bursting out of the central, representative space of the contemporary art institution. In addition to the canvases, the exhibition also includes a video installation that seeks to expand the traditional tools of painting.
