From 5 December 2024 to 28 February 2025, Galerie Melbye-Konan presents the first solo exhibition of London-based artist Anna-Belén Siegmann (born 1997 in Hamburg), titled 'Alchemy' across 400 square metres. Belén is one of today's most exciting young artists. In the exhibition “Alchemy”, Belén explores the profound processes of transformation in nature and in the human mind. Alchemical principles play a central role in her artistic practice, with the constant transformation of the elements in nature forming the core of her abstract works. These are characterized by organic patterns and flowing structures that make moments of metamorphosis and the passage of time visually tangible.

Belén sees herself as a kind of alchemist in her work. She uses materials such as copper, gold, pigments, ammonia and water, whose symbolic meaning is just as important as their technical function. The metals stand for the pursuit of inner wealth and spiritual renewal. The compositions on her canvases are reminiscent of natural growth processes - from delicate leaf veins to lush, sprawling forms.

“I'm approaching alchemy from a point of painting - not painting alchemy.” Belén 2024

Her works blur the boundaries between natural science and mysticism, inviting viewers to look inwards and observe their own spiritual transformation. The recurring natural motifs and colors reflect not only external nature, but also inner landscapes of the soul.

The artist, who graduated from the renowned Royal College of Art in London, explores philosophical and spiritual questions in her paintings. These are strongly influenced by her early studies in psychology. Her art always reflects the relationship between inside and outside and emphasizes the reciprocal connection between the two spheres.

Belén draws thematic and technical inspiration from artists such as Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke. Belén's works are set in the field of tension between experiment and control, between the known and the unknown. Viewers are invited to explore the hidden layers of the human psyche and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

Belén, who was awarded the “Lucy Halford Bursary” in 2024, has already exhibited her work internationally, including at the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Institut Français in Hamburg. Her works can also be found in renowned private collections.
